Where did you meet your Bride/Groom?

I met my husband during high school.

When did you get married and where?

We were married on October 19th, 2013 in the middle of nowhere in Texas at a venue called Old Bison Ranch. A cow moo'ed during our vows. It was awesome! I loved the venue because of the beautiful oak tree we were married under.

What dress/suit size were you when you got married? (only answer if you want to)

My wedding dress was a size 26. I'm usually a 26/28. The dress was very forgiving.

What was your experience of finding a dress/suit?

Well prior to searching I was extremely anxious, nervous, and scared. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to find a beautiful dress due to my size. Alfred Angelo Bridal proved otherwise! I believe any dress was available at any size.

Describe your day.

Our wedding day was much like everyone said it would be. It flew by. Before the wedding while the bridesmaids were getting make-up applied and hair done, I sneaked away and had a mini cry-fest. I was so very emotional that day. Getting married brought up emotions and nerves I've never felt before.  I was anxious to be so open and raw in front of 100 people during our vows. Getting married is such an intimate experience, and being shy just sort of pushed all those nerves to the surface. My husband had a picture of me in his mind about how I would look on our wedding day. He always said I was in a sleeveless dress with curly hair. I was self conscious about my arms, but I wanted to give him the bride he dreamed of. I'm so glad I did. I felt beautiful all night. Never once did I regret my decision. I married the man of my dreams, partied with my loved ones, ate cake, and drove away in a limousine. The topper for my cake said "Best Day Ever." Indeed it was.

Anything else you would like to add

To all the future brides out there. Please don't let insecurities, measurements, or numbers on a scale flood your mind during this joyous time in your life. I let my weight get the better of me for a few months before my wedding. I wasn't going to look for a dress until I lost weight. Well, that didn't happen. And guess what? I still found a beautiful dress! You can be fat and be a stunning bride. You can be fat and have a magical wedding. You can be fat and have a loving marriage. You can be fat and do whatever the hell you want! Promise! Please don't postpone your life because of the person you are today.

  1. Love this article just wish I found it 5 years earlier. I was married in June 2011 and was so insecure and stressed out about my weight I opted for a jop at a city hall instead of the wedding I had always pictured. I regret it so bad. I wish I could have had my wedding and had our families present and feel pretty for once. I didn't even allow pics so the only evidence of our marriage is the certificate they gave us.

  2. I salute you!

I was left traumatised and heartbroken when planning my wedding due to dress shops trying to squeeze me into size 10 sample gowns and a cutting unsympathetic mother in law. As a result my size 18 frame ballooned to a 24 due to comfort eating and I spiralled into severe depression.
What should have been exciting and happy turned into a nightmare which has left me permanently scarred and lacking in body confidence.
I feel so empowered by our curvy blogging sisters who give me a massive confidence boost and are helping me to believe I am actually "worth it".
Please keep going, I love what you do and what it does for the curve community!
A massive heartfelt thank you x
